Guide · Flagstone

Flagstone installation for patios, walkways, and steps.

Flagstone gives a patio or path a relaxed, natural look. Paver Exchange installs flagstone on its own or as an accent with concrete pavers, using the same compacted base we build under every paver job.

Where flagstone works best

Flagstone suits areas with foot traffic. For driveways we recommend concrete or interlocking pavers, which handle car weight better.

  • Garden paths and stepping-stone walks
  • Patios with an informal, natural look
  • Accents and borders inside a concrete paver patio
  • Steps and landings on gentle slopes

How we install flagstone

We excavate, compact a crushed-rock base, and set each stone to a consistent slope so water drains away from the house. Joints are finished with sand, gravel, or plantings depending on the look you want.

Flagstone with pavers

A popular approach is a concrete paver patio with a flagstone path or seating area. The pavers give a level surface for furniture, and the flagstone adds a natural edge.
