El Niño 2026–27

Prepare the paving plan before the wettest days arrive.

NOAA’s September 2026 advisory says El Niño is strengthening, with a greater than 90% chance of a very strong event through fall and winter 2026–27. That raises the odds of El Niño-related impacts, but it does not guarantee a specific storm or rainfall total at your home.

The practical move is not fear—it is planning. When drainage is resolved before demolition, we can coordinate slopes, roof runoff, collection points, and underground routes without cutting into finished pavers later.

One Coordinated Installation

The most important drainage work disappears beneath the finished surface.

A paver pattern should never be designed in isolation from the property’s water. We plan the hidden routes first, establish finished elevations, and then build the paver system around that decision.

  • Water pools against the garage, house, or patio doors
  • Downspouts empty directly onto the driveway or patio
  • Runoff crosses a walkway or leaves sediment after rain
  • The existing surface sends water toward a neighbor
  • Planters overflow onto the paving during irrigation
  • Old drains are buried, undersized, cracked, or hard to clean

Drainage Details

Different water problems need different details.

  • Drain rerouting

Existing lines are identified and redirected beneath or around the new paver field before the base is built.

  • Roof-rain redirects

Downspouts are coordinated with the paving plan so roof runoff does not discharge at foundations, doors, or walking surfaces.

  • Perimeter & channel drains

Linear drains intercept water at garage thresholds, patio doors, low edges, and other vulnerable transitions.

  • Catch basins & access

Collection points and cleanouts remain serviceable while fitting cleanly into the finished paver layout.

  • Finished grading

Elevations and surface slopes are set before installation so water follows a planned route away from structures.

  • Permeable or captured systems

Where soil and setbacks allow, water can infiltrate. Where they do not, a lined reservoir and underdrain can carry it away.

Professional Sequence

Drainage first. Paver design second. One finished result.

This is drainage coordination within a Paver Exchange paving project—not a standalone roofing, plumbing, waterproofing, or civil-engineering service. Where a property needs specialty engineering or separate approvals, we identify that before installation.

  1. 01

    Read the property

We inspect slopes, thresholds, downspouts, low points, existing drains, soil conditions, and where water currently travels.

  2. 02

    Plan water before pattern

Finished elevations, drain locations, roof-rain routes, and discharge points are coordinated with the paver layout and 3D design.

  3. 03

    Build the hidden system

Required drain lines, basins, sleeves, reservoir layers, and grading are completed before the final base and pavers conceal them.

  4. 04

    Set, test, and finish

Pavers are installed to the planned elevations, drain access stays serviceable, and the finished surface is checked for the intended flow path.
